Anticipation

It’s been nearly a month and a half since I was able to relax at home with my wife.  The last time I got to see Shelly healthy, happy and whole was back on March 9th.  Since then, she’s been through the wringer physically with her gall bladder and her subsequent aneurysm and stroke as well as emotionally with everything that her hospital stay and recovery has demanded of her.  We’re getting to the point now where everyone involved is very eager for us all to move on to the next phase of her care and get her back into her home.

Shelly was originally given a tentative discharge date of the 27th but she's made such great progress that I think she's getting time off for good behavior.  We’re looking forward to welcoming her home again and we know that it also marks a new phase in life for us.  As I wrote when this first happened, this event has changed our lives in ways we’re going to be discovering for some time to come.  In one sense, we’re going back to the same old happy life as before but in many others ways it will be a brand new life, too.

Our schedules are going to change and not just to accommodate various appointments.  We’ll have new faces dropping by to help with ongoing care and such, actual sit-down meals at set times and new rhythms and routines for us to get accustomed to.  I’m looking forward to learning about all of the changes that lie ahead but mostly I’m just looking forward to kissing my wife “goodnight” in our own bed again.

And that, my friend, is what it's all about. :-)
