It Only Ends Once

A few weeks ago, a fellow blogger posted what he speculated the final scene of LOST might look like.  At the time, I posted my agreement with him, I could easily see how the cycle would begin anew with one of the candidates replacing Jacob and the Man In Black remaining trapped on the island.

But since then, I've had a chance to mull things over and I recall the conversation Jacob and his Nemesis shared in last season's closing episode, "The Incident"

Man In Black: "Still trying to prove me wrong, aren't you?"

Jacob: "You are wrong."

Man In Black: "Am I? They come. They fight. They destroy. They corrupt. It always ends the same."

Jacob: "It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress."
You can't tease the idea of something like this actually ending without letting that happen and delivering the goods!  Jacob has been bringing people to the island in an attempt to prove his Nemesis wrong, hoping that someone would make "the right choices."  What if making the right choice means finally breaking the cycle once and for all?

In any event, the island isn't done with me yet, I'll be tuned in and parked in front of the TV tonight to see what "progress" is made this week.
