Halloween has never been much of a big holiday here at our house but this year it's especially quiet. Shelly's sister took her up north to visit the boys for a few days so it's just me and the cats minding the homestead while they're away.
I was a kid at the tail-end of the "Baby Boom" and we lived in a very populated neighborhood so my Halloween memories are of conga lines of kids streaming through the streets for hours. Now I live in a home that happens to be situated on the less-developed end of our street and our house sits a good distance back from the road so we've never had any kids come to our door trick-or-treating.
But I know I have to get some kind of candy to have ready to hand out, just in case. You just know that the one Halloween I don't will be the year that some kids will actually show up and I'd end up being the jerk who hands out granola bars and spare change as treats. Maybe if I get bored enough today I might even get a pumpkin just to see if I can actually carve it with my reciprocating saw...
