You'd think a bear stopping by for a snack would be one of the most alarming parts about living out in the country but the bear is a lot less dangerous than some of the smaller wildlife out here. One of our cats was recently attacked and her lower back is now in stitches and she's stuck wearing a satellite dish for a while. And to make it even more difficult for all involved, Ezzie was due for a rabies booster last month and our previous vet never sent us a reminder so now she's under quarantine for the next 6 months. Ezzie is our "adventure girl," she loves being outdoors more than anything so being confined to home isn't going to go over well with her or the woodwork in the house.
The vet's best guess as to what sort of animal did this to her was either a fox or a coyote. Even though I've heard coyotes off in the distance through the woods, my money is on the fox as a neighbor lost some chickens to one last year. Much too close of a call for comfort, it was only slightly miraculous that Ezzie managed to get away from her attacker and make it back home.
I'm really looking forward to moving back to civilization again!
